Canada’s financial system, as measured by the RSM financial conditions index (a composite of stress factors in Canada’s equity, bond, commodity and money markets), has shown recent signs of a V-shaped recovery in large part due to Canada’s monetary and fiscal policies, along with joint efforts made between federal and provincial health agencies to confront and contain the pandemic. However, a recent resurgence of new infections and lack of vaccine could put meaningful and complete recovery at risk.

Also in this issue: Regardless of who sits in the White House, the economies of the United States and Canada are so closely intertwined that Canada’s recovery largely depends on economic recovery in the United States.
